Welcome to The Salted Fly! This little corner of the internet is my chance to share my love of fly fishing. For over twenty years, it has been taking me incredible places, introducing me to amazing people, providing me with a never ending bucket list, and offering a peaceful getaway from the stress and worries of the world.
From my home in Mathews Virginia on the Chesapeake Bay, I hope to give an honest glimpse at the sport. Though the focus will be on fly fishing, I will try to dovetail into travel, cooking, culture, and conservation. Another goal is to break the perception that it is an elite sport only for those of significant means. Though fly fishing is frequently associated with private spring creeks in Montana, bush planes to remote Alaskan rivers, or sun bleached flats in the Seychelles, fly fishing is equally practical for carp in Denver’s Platte River, for shad in Richmond’s industrial landscape on the James River, or croaker off a public dock in the York River. I will try to provide insight both on how to find these urban gems and how to access the exotic destinations on a budget.
Most of the action will be on the blog, that I will do my best to update on a regular basis. It will be a mix of practical how-to advice, and fish stories with a creative tone. It is a sport for continuous personal growth and development, and I will try to conclude each adventure with some lesson learned or knowledge gained. I may do an occasional unsponsored gear review. Fly tying will have its own dedicated page, so check there for what’s coming off my tying bench. Found throughout the page will be original photos and video documenting the beauty of this sport.
Enjoy!
